We are a family-operated business. My name is Chip. I’m the guy in the picture wearing the black sweater. I’m a citizen of the United States of America, and I’ve lived and worked in China for six years. Next to me is my wife Xiao Hong (also known as Scarlet to English speakers.) Next to Scarlet is our son Ming, and on my lap is our daughter Mei. Scarlet and I run the www.lacquerandoil.com business together. We do not own a sweatshop filled with underpaid workers applying oil paint over photographs printed on canvas. We commission local professional artists with years of experience to produce your portraits by hand in their own homes and studios. We are located in the city of Putian in Fujian Province, China. |

It’s a small town by Chinese standards. Putian has a population of about 3,000,000 people, which is larger than the population of some countries. It is located just north of Xiamen, which was one of the first free economic zones in China. This area is developing rapidly, and the local art talent is contributing to the development. |
